Elsie Lupkes Funeral Rites Held Sept. 7, 1973

Funeral Services for Mrs. Elsie Lupkes, 83, a resident of the Wheaton area for 65 years, were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 7 at the St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. W.O. Sprengeler officiating.

Mrs. Lupkes died on Friday, Sept. 3, after an illness of 2½ years.

Pallbearers were Lawrence Roy, Lloyd Asplund, John Osterman, Richard Young and William Zimmerman.  Internment was at the St. John Cemetery.

Mrs. Lupkes was born in Germany, daughter of Minnie and Carl Block.  She came to this country with her parents at the age of 2.  In 1911, she came to Traverse County and was united in marriage to Aielt Lupkes on September 24, 1913.  They farmed near Wheaton until Mr. Lupkes' death in 1946, when Mrs. Lupkes moved to Wheaton.

She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Clifton Study Group.

Survivors include her son Carl of Seattle, Washington, three grandchildren, Patricia Spoonamore of Tuscon, Ariz., Stanley of Seattle, Wash. and Neil of Centralia, Wash, five great grandsons; four sisters, Mrs. Louise DePriest of Palmer, Alaska, Mrs. Gary (Ida) Koerselman of Mason City, Iowa, Mrs. D.R. McCleary of Englewood, Florida, and Mrs. Hilda Carkhuff of Englewood, Florida, and one brother emil Russell of Junction City, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Bernice in 1966, her parents and one sister.
